NUTTER BUTTER SANTAS & REINDEER – These festive treats turn Nutter Butters into Santa and his reindeer. They’re fun to put together and sure to make you feel like a kid again!
Nutter Butter Santas & Reindeer are so fun! They are a great activity when you have little helpers, especially if you want to make something together but you don’t want to spend the entire day in the process.
What I really love about these adorable little characters is that I can have the cookie decorating fun without having to make the cookies first. If you have little helpers with you, I recommend the reindeer for younger children and the Santas for older children.
My kids have fond memories of making these cookies at family gatherings with cousins and then leaving them out for Santa. And I have it on good authority that Santa really enjoyed them.
When decorating cookies, I recommend setting up a good assembly line to simplify the process. It’s all about getting your supplies out, accessible, and in order before you begin.
I used Snyder’s Itty Bitty Minis for the reindeer antlers. If those are difficult to find, you can use mini pretzels instead. You will just want play around a bit with how you want them to look.

NUTTER BUTTER SANTAS & REINDEER - These festive treats turn Nutter Butters into Santa and his reindeer. They're fun to put together and sure to make you feel like a kid again!
Ingredients
Santas
- Nutter Butters
- White vanilla flavored melting wafers
- Red sanding sugar
- White chocolate chips
- Mini chocolate chips
- Red Hots
Reindeer
- Nutter Butters
- Ready-made decorating icing
- Snyder's Itty Bitty Mini Pretzels (or mini pretzels)
- M&Ms (family size)
Instructions
- For the Santas: melt the vanilla flavored melting wafers according to package directions (I melted about 5 ounces for 12 cookies). Transfer to a small narrow glass, about 2 inches deep.
- Pour the red sanding sugar into a similar small narrow glass, about 1 inch deep.
- Set up a sheet of parchment paper on the counter.
- Working on one Nutter Butter at a time, make the Santa hat by dipping the top of the cookie about 1/3 of the way down into the melted vanilla wafers (let excess drip off), carefully dip the top into the sanding sugar leaving a tiny bit of the white vanilla coating showing (like the rim of the hat).
- Make the beard by dipping the bottom half of the cookie back into the melted vanilla wafers (let excess drip off). Set aside on the prepared parchment paper.
- Set a white chocolate chip at the base of the Santa hat (like the white bobble at the end). Press down slightly, just enough for it to be secured by the melted vanilla coating.
- Carefully dip 2 mini chocolate chips in the melted vanilla wafers and place on the cookie for Santa's eyes.
- Carefully dip a Red Hot in the melted vanilla wafers and place on the cookie for Santa's nose.
- Repeat until you've completed all your Santas. Let the cookies rest until the vanilla coating has solidified.
- For the reindeer (these ones are the easiest for little helpers): using the ready-made decorating icing, pipe a small section along the top of the cookie for the antlers, two dabs for the eyes, and one dab for the nose.
- Place the pretzels at the top of the cookies for the antlers. If using mini pretzels instead of Itty Bitty Minis, use just one pretzel and carefully cut away the curved section at the very bottom to keep it from crowding out the eyes.
- Place two brown M&Ms for the eyes and one red M&M for the nose.
- Repeat until you've completed all your reindeer. Let the Cookies rest until the decorating icing has solidified.
