It seems silly to be so excited about a dish that’s made with frozen peas, but here we are. Buttered Peas with Bacon and Pine Nuts was a big hit with everyone at my house.
I always appreciate dishes that help me to incorporate vegetables into our meals. And even though you may not consider the addition of bacon and butter to be the healthiest choice, it does insure that my teenage son with actually eat the vegetables.
I especially love how versatile Buttered Peas with Bacon and Pine Nuts is. It could easily be served with chicken, beef, pork, BBQ, sandwiches… You get the idea.
This dish stores well in the refrigerator for several days. Just warm it up in the microwave when ready to serve.

- Frozen peas
- Thick-cut bacon
- Pine nuts
- Garlic
- Unsalted butter
- Fresh parsley
- Lemon, zest and juice
- Salt and pepper
Buttered Peas with Bacon and Pine Nuts
BUTTERED PEAS WITH BACON AND PINE NUTS - Sweet buttered peas balanced with crunchy pine nuts and salty bacon. This quick and simple side dish will have everyone wanting more.
Ingredients
- 1 pound frozen peas (about 3 cups)
- 2-3 slices of thick-cut bacon, cut into thin strips
- 1/2 cup pine nuts
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Thaw the peas by placing them in a colander in the sink. Run warm to hot water for 3-4 minutes, until all the peas are thawed and warming up.
- In a medium-sized saucepan heated to medium heat, add the bacon. Cook and stir constantly for about 3 minutes, until starting to crisp up.
- Add the pine nuts. Cook and stir constantly for about 2 minutes, until the pine nuts start to toast.
- Add the garlic. Cook and stir constantly, for about 30 seconds.
- Add the peas and butter. Cook and stir until the peas are heated through and the butter is completely melted, about 2 minutes.
- Add the parsley, lemon zest, and lemon juice, stir to combine.
- Add the salt and pepper to taste, stir to combine.
- Serve immediately.
