MONKEY BREAD WITH CARAMEL SAUCE – Bite-sized bread pieces drizzled with gooey, rich caramel sauce. It’s super quick to make and so hard to resist.
Monkey Bread with Caramel Sauce is a fan favorite recipe in my house. It’s fun as a breakfast treat, but it’s also nice as an afternoon or evening snack. It seems like everyone has their own favorite version of monkey bread, this one is mine.
I set out a few months ago to find a monkey bread recipe that was good enough to call “my favorite.” I was a bit surprised by the results.
Right away I found a caramel sauce that was to die for! It’s drizzled over the dough before baking and drizzled over the baked bread. I also served the sauce on the side, and I was definitely dunking each bite in it as well. It’s so addicting!
I then tested out three different bread methods with the caramel sauce. I tried a homemade bread recipe, freezer rolls, and canned refrigerator rolls. All of this in one afternoon, so I could taste them side-by-side. My family gave me a lot of mixed reviews. But in the end, the one that got eaten by far more that any other was the refrigerator rolls version!
I’ll share what I did, in case you want to try the different methods yourself. For the homemade bread method, I would recommend using Sunday Dinner Rolls. One recipe will make 2 large batches of monkey bread. For the freezer rolls, I would recommend using 18-24 Rhodes Rolls. Let them thaw for 30-60 minutes in a greased muffin tin before cutting into fourths.
Monkey Bread with Caramel Sauce makes a smaller batch of monkey bread. If you’re wanting a bigger batch, I would recommend simply adding 1/2 – 1 additional can of refrigerator rolls. You may also need to add additional baking time.
Here’s what you need to make Monkey Bread with Caramel Sauce…
